Case

Developing the mangel for the future.

Pexymek is a Swedish company that produces cold mangles for household use. Mangling fabrics has several benefits, such as giving them longer life and less frequent need for washing. Pexymek, whose entire production takes place in Sweden, sees growing relevance for its mangle and decided to choose Semcon to develop an updated product to appeal to more users.

Background

For decades, the design of the mangle has remained largely unchanged. At the same time, advances in technology have opened up new possibilities for both form and functionality.

Together with Pexymek, we set out to rethink the product – developing a modern, easy-to-use mangle that customers would want to keep visible in their homes.

Challenge

Producing a mangle requires skilled craftsmanship and manual assembly. At the same time, it needs to appeal to both touch and sight.

The ambition was to create a modern, attractive design with enhanced safety – and to inspire more people to use mangling as a way to extend the life of textiles and reduce consumption.

Sustainable and cost effective.

Pexymek manufactures the mangle at its site in Falkenberg, with components sourced from Sweden and across Europe. Materials and production methods have been carefully selected to support local suppliers – reducing transport emissions while creating a more cost-effective product.

“Producing a mangle requires skilled craftsmanship and manual assembly. It needs to appeal to both touch and sight, which is why we aimed for a modern design with enhanced safety. We hope this mangle will inspire more people to use mangling and contribute to increased sustainability and reduced consumption.” says Emma Stenberg, CEO, Pexymek.

Delivered Value

The mangle is designed for a long lifespan – both technically and aesthetically. A durable construction is combined with a timeless design, ensuring relevance over time.

Repairability has been prioritised, with accessible components that make maintenance, repair and recycling easier. Materials have been carefully selected with a focus on recycled and recyclable options.

Together, this creates a product that is intuitive to use and built to last – with the potential to be used across generations.
