Background

The collaboration has been carried out from operations in Norway in close cooperation with the client’s organization, alongside an established collaboration in Linköping. The relationship is characterized by a high level of trust, technical excellence, and a shared focus on quality, delivery precision, and continuous development.

Challenge

UMS Skeldar’s systems place very high demands on low weight, long service life, and robust performance in demanding environments. The gearboxes are safety-critical components where even small deviations can have significant consequences for performance, availability, and flight safety.

The challenge was to combine deep technical expertise with a system perspective that considers the entire product lifecycle—from design to operation and maintenance. At the same time, there was an opportunity to contribute broadly across analysis, development, production, and testing in a partnership where insights from real-world use continuously drive improvements.

A system perspective at the core.

Knightec Group has played a central role in the development of both the Main Gearbox and Tail Gearbox, from concept development and advanced calculations to detailed design, prototype manufacturing, and verification testing in its own workshops, as well as deliveries since 2006 (20 years).

The work has been carried out in an integrated and solution-oriented collaboration where challenges are identified early and handled in close dialogue with UMS Skeldar. Knightec Group has functioned as an extension of the development organization and contributed in design, technical project management, production preparation, assembly, and quality assurance.

Delivered Value

Knightec Group has also been involved in follow-up, service, and maintenance throughout the entire lifecycle. Operational experience has been systematically used to further develop design, functionality, and manufacturing solutions.

The long-term collaboration has simultaneously strengthened UMS Skeldar’s technical capabilities and created stable conditions for continued development of advanced aerial systems.
