Background

Collaborating with OXE Marine, Knightec Group played an active role in the development of the outboard’s mechanical components.

The OXE300 is an outboard engine for commercial use, with a lifespan 20 times that of the other outboards on the market today.

Challenge

The OXE300 is designed to be used in environments where strength, power, low fuel consumption and long range are crucial. At the same time, it also needed to be a safe and reliable product for all maritime operators who come in contact with it.

The most fuel-efficient outboard diesel engine.

The result was the most fuel-efficient 300-horsepower outboard diesel engine on the market, delivering significant lifecycle cost savings. Break-even is reached at around 500 operating hours, and after 4,000 hours, savings can reach up to SEK 3 million. The OXE300 also increases range by nearly 80%, while easily accessible service points enable maintenance directly from the boat.

Based on the BMW B57 diesel engine, the OXE300 was marinised for professional maritime use through water cooling, including a water-cooled exhaust manifold to reduce surface temperatures. The transmission was adapted for higher torque and a high gear ratio, with several components specifically engineered for marine performance. The collaboration with OXE Marine highlights Knightec Group’s multidisciplinary expertise as an end-to-end development partner, combining engineering, product development, design, and product information to deliver a complete solution.

Delivered Value

The solution encompasses a broad range of engineering capabilities, including marinisation through water cooling, concept development, and lightweight construction. It also covers the design and optimization of castings, gearboxes, and transmissions, supported by advanced simulations and structural calculations to ensure performance, efficiency, and reliability.
