Background

Metso is a multinational company and a forerunner in sustainable technology, complete solutions, and services for worldwide aggregate production, mineral processing, and metal refining. The company has pioneered healing time for generations by providing new and better technologies and changing existing ways of conducting business in raw material processing.

Challenge

Metso, a leader in mining technology, faced significant challenges in conducting safe and efficient inspections of mining mills. These inspections are crucial for predicting maintenance needs and preventing unplanned downtime. The traditional inspection process involved substantial risks due to the harsh industrial environment.

Transforming inspections through virtual reality.

In collaboration with Knightec Group, Metso developed a VR platform that enables safe, detailed inspections of mining mills. Using advanced 3D scanning, the solution allows teams to analyse equipment in a virtual environment and collaborate remotely.

By combining technical expertise with user feedback, the teams created an intuitive, accessible solution for both VR and PC use. The result improves safety, efficiency, and collaboration in inspection and maintenance work.
