Case
Systematic approach developed for Gothenburg.
The City of Gothenburg is actively working to reduce risks related to chemicals across its operations. For the Disability Support Administration, this marks an important step towards a more structured approach to chemical management, with a clear focus on both occupational health and environmental considerations.

Background
The Disability Support Administration of Gothenburg is Sweden’s largest organisation of its kind, with approximately 6,300 employees. It provides support to people with disabilities under legislation such as the LSS Act (Support and Service for Persons with Certain Functional Impairments), the Social Services Act and the Health and Medical Services Act. Chemical products are used across several operations, including cleaning, kitchens and various forms of daily activities.
Challenge
As regulatory developments increase the need for more systematic chemical management, there is a growing need for clear approaches to risk assessment, product selection and documentation. More broadly, Knightec Group supports similar types of challenges by combining expertise, structured ways of working and systems support.
Creating control through structured chemical management.
Knightec Group reviewed chemical products used in cleaning and kitchen operations, assessing their health and environmental impact and identifying safer alternatives within the procurement system. Recommendations were provided to replace products with more sustainable options.
The work also included developing structured procurement lists, conducting risk assessments, and documenting all products in the City of Gothenburg’s chemical management system. In parallel, a full inventory was carried out in a car workshop, enabling the removal of unused products and the substitution of hazardous substances with safer alternatives—creating better control, transparency and reduced risk.

Delivered Value
Through the assignment, the administration has established an initial structured foundation for which chemical products to use and how to conduct and document risk assessments. This creates the basis for a more systematic approach to chemical management going forward.
A structured approach improves control over chemical use, reduces risks for both employees and users, and supports long-term efforts towards safer product selection and substitution.
